DEVOTIONAL
“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” — Hebrews 6:12 (KJV)
God has given His children many precious promises in His Word. These promises reveal His will concerning our lives, our health, our provision, and our purpose. However, the Bible teaches us that the promises of God are not received casually; they are inherited through the powerful combination of FAITH and patience.
FAITH enables us to believe God’s Word and embrace His promises even before they become visible in the natural realm. As our title deed, it is the confident assurance that what God has spoken is true and will certainly come to pass. FAITH reaches deep into the realm of God’s promise and lays hold of it with unwavering conviction. Yet FAITH must be accompanied by patience. Patience is the steadfast endurance that refuses to give up while waiting for the fulfillment of what God has spoken. Many times, we begin in FAITH, but we often abandon our confidence when circumstances seem slow to change. I have learned that patience protects my FAITH from discouragement and keeps me steady until the promise manifests.
The Bible gives us many examples of those who inherited God’s promises through FAITH and patience. Abraham believed God concerning the promise of a son even when natural circumstances appeared impossible. Though the fulfillment did not come immediately, he remained persuaded that God was faithful to perform what He had promised until God did. David was anointed for kingship at about age seventeen, but he only became king when he was thirty. During those thirteen years, he kept his FAITH and dealt wisely with patience.
Beloved, FAITH and patience work together like two pillars supporting the believer’s expectation. While FAITH lays hold of the promise, patience sustains that expectation until the appointed time of fulfillment. When you allow these two operate together, you develop spiritual endurance and unshakable confidence in God’s faithfulness. God’s promises are certain, and His timing is perfect. Continue to believe His Word, continue to declare His promises, and remain steadfast in FAITH. You will inherit every promise that God has prepared for you.
MAKE THIS CONFESSION:
From this day, my heart becomes steadfast in believing what God has spoken. I refuse to be discouraged by delay or circumstances. God is faithful to fulfill every promise in His Word, and I walk in confident expectation of their manifestation in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
