FAITH AND PATIENCE

"That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

(Hebrews 6:12, KJV)

Every child of God has been called to inherit the promises of God. But inheriting the promises often requires FAITH and patience. In the case of Abraham, when God called him out of his father’s house into the land He said He would show him, receiving the INHERITANCE was not automatic. Abraham had to grow and mature in his FAITH and experience of God. He left his father’s house at the age of 75, but he really saw the manifested promise, including the birth of Isaac when he was 100.

God does not lie. Unlike men, He is not ambivalent and unreliable. If He promised you a thing, like we say in the modern world, you can take it to the bank. You can depend on it with your life. His promises are yes and amen.

But like in every covenant, the promise isn’t automatic. Hence, we have a part to play. In Hebrews 6: 11-12, the Bible urges us to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope till the end. In verse 12 specifically, it says that we shouldn’t be slothful.

The term ‘slothful’ comes from the Greek word “Nothros,” which means lazy or sluggish. In the context of this scripture, Nothros emphasizes the importance of our spiritual diligence and proactive FAITH, warning against complacency and a lack of commitment to following Christ.

To receive our inheritance, we need patience. But in exuding patience, we need to maintain a standpoint of diligence—keeping our gaze on Christ (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus Christ remains the start and finish point of our FAITH.

SAY THIS PRAYER:

Father, I receive grace today to wait on You and the patience through diligence to receive my INHERITANCE. Thank you, Lord. Amen!
